Presentation

"Local produce in all its flavour": a famous annual event in the village of Launay, the Foire à la Pie brings together trades, know-how and furry and feathered show animals.
Every year since the Middle Ages, the Foire à la Pie (Magpie Fair) has taken place in the main street of the village of Launay on 23 November, the day of Saint Clément, unless that day is a Sunday.

This fair was maintained thanks to the tenacity of the local farmers and shopkeepers.

You can still see some very fine specimens of farm animals. Numerous associations set up stalls, as well as hawkers and merchants who come to showcase their products and wares.

People come from far and wide, gather around the stalls and taste the local produce: it's like a tradition.

It's a great idea for a walk that's well worth the trip, but you'll need to be early as it only lasts for a long morning.

A little history:
The village of Launay is famous for its "magpie fair". This is where the monks of Buzay Abbey and their farmers used to sell their cattle and horses that had been brought in from the meadows before winter. This fair took place on 23 November (Saint Clément Day) at the start of winter. It is called the "Foire à la Pie" (Magpie Fair) because of the similarity between the monks' black and white habit and the magpie bird.
