Presentation

This menhir also called "stone of the Crotria" is made up of two blocks. The first, erected, measures 4.20m high, 3.20m wide and 1m thick at its base. The second, smaller, is lying at the foot of the first.
This imposing megalith, located along the road that crosses the locality of La Croterie, is made up of two blocks:
  • The first stone is 4.20m high, 3.20m wide and 1m thick at its base.
  • The second, smaller stone lies at the foot of the first.

Some specialists believe that they are two parts of the same menhir, broken when it was moved to the Platennes dolmen.

The Chevanou menhir was listed as a historic monument by decree on 2 May 1989.

It stands by the roadside close to the hamlet of La Crotrie, where the "Les menhirs" hiking trail passes through the commune of Chauvé.
